Origami Wishes

The most simple yet equally captivating project. Holding wishes written inside.

Commissioned for Selby Swan Festival as a Jubilee Project, ArtWaves festival 2017/2018. Used as part of school workshop day exploring gender stereotypes, also featured in a Christmas artisan fair Hull 2017.

The impactful part of this work is the act of writing a wish. This draws in adults and children alike. A meaningful act often to benefit others, enhanced for particular themes for example the Christmas Market in Hull where the origami was doves of peace. In the school workshop the origami was transformational butterflies holding within all the ‘labels’ the children wanted to free themselves of. There are endless ways to display the corresponding work. Suspended from above works particularly well, creating a ‘selfie’ opportunity and with sound creates an immersive atmosphere.
